The best time to visit the Classic Inca Trail is from May to October. The rest of the year there is less influx of tourists because the climate is very humid, cold and raining constantly. Some parts of the road become very slippery and dangerous.
Acclimatization is necessary in Cusco and surroundings, one or two days before starting the tour. Adequate acclimatization prevents it from affecting "soroche" or altitude sickness, which could cause numerous health problems.
